Milwaukee Vs Dewalt Coldcut Saw

Quality Tools Equate to a Quality Job

Cold-cut saws go by many names in the contracting world. Dry-cut or cop saws are terms often used to describe the blades that cut at a higher speed without kicking boards loose or fracturing due to heat stress. A contractor looking for the best tools should look no further than two industry giants: Milwaukee and DeWalt. Both have a longstanding history of excellence. Stacking up their products against each other is a test that can only benefit the contractor.

Historic Company Strengths

DeWalt began with the invention of the radial arm saw and today has a product line of over 200 electric power tools and more than 800 accessories. DeWalt excels in areas of portability and versatility with many of their electrical products now cordless. Milwaukee Tools has built its reputation around powerful pieces of equipment and a spirit of innovation. It is the first company to use lithium ion batteries for cordless power tools.

Modern Market Shares

DeWalt has lagged behind in metalworking, an arena where Milwaukee, with its pioneering Sawzall Reciprocating Saw, has excelled. Milwaukee has had a tougher time breaking into the residential contract market, an area in which DeWalt has had more success.

Industrial grade equipment is an area where Milwaukee has garnered more attention, winning contracts with branches of the armed forces. DeWalt is a much larger player in the world market, with its tools being found all through Europe and the United States.

Dewalt Heavy-Duty Chop Saw

The DeWalt Heavy-Duty Chop Saw sports a powerful 15 amp/ 5.5 horsepower motor to provide greater overload capacity with increased performance and durability. Its quick-change blade system means saw blades are changed without the need of a wrench to open the case. DeWalt's patented "quick-fence" adjustable 45-degree fence creates fast and accurate cuts with no other equipment needed. It has a large cut capacity, an ergonomically designed handle for comfort gripping and an adjustable spark guard.

Milwaukee Dry-Cut Chop Saw

Milwaukee's Dry-Cut Chop Saw utilizes cold-cut technology to cut an average of three times faster than an abrasive machine with much less time needed to operate. Its blade produces little to no sparks and leaves an almost burr-free finish to the cut. The base is heavy-duty cast aluminum reinforced with a steel plate. Wheel diameter is 14 inches with a 45-degree pivoting fence.

The Winner

The DeWalt saw weighs in nearly thirty pounds lighter than the Milwaukee and possesses greater horsepower and a wider cut capacity with rectangular pieces. The Milwaukee has greater cut capacity with rounder objects, though it lacks the convenience of a quick-changing fence for fluid cuts, and at its weight of over sixty pounds, has limited portability. The DeWalt saw also costs three times less than its counterpart.
