Marinade A Pork Roast

A marinated pork roast makes a delicious entree

Pork roasts are popular and tasty, so long as they're prepared right. A dry or flavorless pork roast can ruin dinner in a flash. Fortunately, marinades help prevent these issues and impart the pork roast with flavor, either subtle or strong. The kind of marinade can vary, but following some simple guidelines will ensure best results.

Instructions

1. Prepare your cut of pork. If necessary, remove any bones. Make sure the pork is defrosted before marinating.

2. Create a marinade, either by following a recipe or combining favorite seasonings and ingredients. A marinade should include at least a cup of liquid. Soy sauce and apple juice are popular, as is vinegar. Add a pinch of salt to the liquid to help tenderize the meat. Dry ingredients may be added as well, such as pepper, basil, mustard powder, or prepared spice mixes.

3. Place the pork roast in the large plastic bag, then pour the marinade in. Make sure to squeeze out as much air as you can, then seal the bag and leave it in the refrigerator for at least an hour. Turn the bag over periodically to make sure both sides of the roast get exposed to the liquid so it can better soak into the meat.

4. Wait for the pork roast to marinate. This process can last anywhere from six to twenty four hours depending on desired results. Longer marinating times can yield more flavorful meats, but require more planning and foresight.

5. Remove the pork roast from the bag and put it in the oven to cook. The roast may be placed either in a dish or pan of some kind, or cooked directly on the oven rack. Make sure to keep the rest of the marinade.

6. Cook the pork roast as recommended. Different amounts of meat will require different cook times. The reserved marinade should be brushed over the roast around every half hour for flavor and to keep the meat from becoming too dry.
