Soaked brown rice is one alternative for raw food dieters.
Adhering to a raw diet shows a true commitment to healthy living. A raw diet eliminates processed foods that are difficult to digest while providing you with more nutrients than cooked foods. When trying to incorporate grains like rice into a raw diet, many people hit a wall. Soaking is the primary method for preparing rice in a way that coincides with the tenets of the raw food movement. Brown rice is also healthier than bleached white rice and it responds better to soaking than other rices.
Instructions
1. Put brown rice in a colander. Rinse with cold water until the water runs clear. This removes the starch on the rice.
2. Put the brown rice in a large bowl. Fill the bowl with two to three times as much water as rice.
3. Strain and replace the water every 12 hours. Let the brown rice soak for 24 to 36 hours in total or until it sprouts.
4. Proceed with any recipe calling for cooked rice.
