Make Chinese Take Out

Save money, eat healthier and have fun by making a Chinese take-out feast at home. All you need are a few Chinese-themed implements and a little creativity. Read on and learn how you can create all the ambiance of China Town in your own home.

Instructions

1. Start with Chinese take-out boxes. You can order boxes in dozens of colors and prints from Magic and Weddings (see Resources) for just a few cents each. Pack your dinner in these boxes for a real Chinese feel.

2. Set your table with Chinese bowls, trays and cutlery. Buy chopsticks, Chinese soup spoons, bowls and bamboo trays at a department store or a specialty shop like Pearl River (see Resources).

3. Stock your pantry with Asian ingredients like rice wine vinegar, sesame oil, pepper sauce and rice so you can have take-out food in less time than it takes to dial a restaurant. Buy a few basic cooking tools like a wok and a meat cleaver to make it even easier to prepare your favorite Chinese foods.

4. Whip up some top take-out recipes. Search Recipe Zaar (see Resources) for dishes like Sesame Chicken, Mongolian Beef, Mu Shu Pork and Kung Pao Chicken. Serve your take-out meal with plum wine or sake for an Asian accompaniment.

5. Finish your meal with a fortune cookie. You can make your own or buy them in bulk from an Asian market or your favorite Chinese restaurant. Have fun reading your fortunes aloud.
